Social Change Projects (SCP) has played a central role in the Back Your Neighbour Campaign, providing strategic leadership, campaign management and coordination support to build a broad, values‑based coalition advocating for people seeking asylum who are living in the Australian community without income or basic support. SCP supported the design and delivery of the campaign’s advocacy strategy, helping to frame a clear public narrative focused on dignity, fairness and community responsibility, and positioning local government and community voices as powerful advocates for change. A core element of SCP’s work with Back Your Neighbour involved building and mobilising a diverse coalition of local councils, community organisations, faith groups and advocates. SCP supported engagement with mayors and councillors, coordinated campaign briefings and meetings, and helped facilitate collective action such as joint letters, motions and public commitments. This work strengthened the campaign’s reach and legitimacy, enabling local leaders to publicly call for humane policy responses and practical support for people seeking asylum while their claims were being assessed. SCP also led the campaign’s public communications and relaunch efforts, including event coordination, digital engagement and media outreach during key political moments such as the federal election period. This included managing campaign communications channels, supporting partner organisations to participate effectively, and ensuring consistent, values‑aligned messaging across the coalition. Through this work, SCP helped sustain momentum for the Back Your Neighbour Campaign and keep the experiences of people seeking asylum visible in public debate, grounded in community solidarity rather than fear or exclusion.
